Building Bright Futures: Our K-2 Literacy Campaign

At Miguel Hidalgo Elementary, we have a bold goal: Every student will be a confident reader by the 3rd grade.

Thanks to the LCRSET grant, we have transformed how we teach reading in our youngest classrooms (Kindergarten through 2nd Grade). Over the past two years, our teachers have participated in specialized workshops and "peer walks," learning from one another to ensure every child receives the best possible instruction.

But we didn’t do it alone! Through our engaging Literacy Nights, we invited you—our families—to be partners in this journey, sharing games and tips to make reading fun at home.

The Result? Our students are growing faster than ever before! This year, our school achieved the highest growth in the district, proving that when we focus on strong foundations and work together, our children shine.

Construyendo un Futuro Brillante: Nuestra Campaña de Lectura K-2

En la Escuela Primaria Miguel Hidalgo, tenemos una gran meta: Que cada estudiante lea con confianza para cuando llegue al 3er grado.

Gracias a los fondos del programa LCRSET, hemos transformado la forma en que enseñamos a leer en nuestros salones de los más pequeños (de Kínder a 2º grado). Durante los últimos dos años, nuestros maestros han participado en talleres especializados y en "observaciones entre compañeros", aprendiendo unos de otros para asegurar que cada niño reciba la mejor enseñanza posible.

¡Pero no lo hicimos solos! A través de nuestras divertidas Noches de Lectura, los invitamos a ustedes—nuestras familias—a ser parte de este camino, compartiendo juegos y consejos para que la lectura sea divertida en casa.

¿El resultado? ¡Nuestros estudiantes están avanzando más rápido que nunca! Este año, nuestra escuela logró el mayor crecimiento académico del distrito, demostrando que cuando nos enfocamos en bases sólidas y trabajamos juntos, nuestros niños brillan.

What is the California School Dashboard?

The California School Dashboard is like an online "report card" for schools and districts. Instead of looking at just test scores, it gives a complete picture of how a school is serving its students.

It measures performance in several key areas, including:

  • Academic Performance (Math and English scores).

  • English Learner Progress (How well students are learning English).

  • Chronic Absenteeism (Attendance rates).

  • Suspension Rates (School climate and behavior).

Instead of letter grades (A-F), the Dashboard uses colors to show how well a school is doing. Red represents the lowest performance, and Blue represents the highest. It looks at both where students are right now and how much they have improved from the year before.
